The children of Port Elliot Primary School with Shane Howard and Anne Todd, composed and sang "Let the Murray Flow" in 2004. They are very concerned with the affect of drought on the River Murray at the Lower Lakes and River Murray's Mouth, in South Australia. Here are the words so that you can sing along with the students.
Let The Murray Flow - words and lyrics by Shane Howard and Anne Todd.
"Oh Australia, the hardest heart would understand. Just to feel your wilderness, has stirred these things in me.
Chorus: Let the Murray Flow, let the river run free, The Murray River should be strong and free, From the Snowy mountains to Goolwa's southern shores, Has to be something worth fighting for.
Oh the Murray Mouth, it's at the end of its journey south, Its Mulloway and The Coorong, depend upon you now.
Chorus
The river gums and the pelicans, The paddlesteamers and the Murray Cod, Just to swim in the river - cools the blood in me.
Chorus
We stand together with the Ngarrindjeri, To save the river now for all to see, The Great White Pointers and the Southern Right Whales, Are swimming in Encounter Bay.
Chorus

This audio has been designed to be played with the International School Peace Gardens slide show. It also tells the story of what schools have achieved since 1993, when IHTEC began, and can be listened to on its own.
